Micaela Schmidt is a Wodonga based artist and access consultant who places storytelling at the centre of everything she does. Following several years of training as a classical singer, Micaela realised that she also loved sharing stories through acting, and has been experimenting since then. She has performed for various theatrical events in Albury-Wodonga including The Last Hoorah by the Flying Fruit Fly Circus, Albury City’s Hidden Cinema, The Cube Collective and The Cube Fringe Session variety evenings. Micaela trained in performance and theatre making through Hothouse Theatre’s Industry Co:Lab program, and in physical theatre through the Flying Fruit Fly Circus and Womens’ Circus. Micaela is passionate about making storytelling of all kinds accessible to disabled and regional communities. As an access consultant, she has helped improve access to various forms of art in both Albury-Wodonga and Melbourne. Micaela draws on her own lived experience of blindness and the experiences of other disabled people when consulting and advocating for access in the arts. In June 2024 she presented at the Arts Centre Melbourne, on The Working Artist: Redefining Access panel, as part of the Disrupting Sighted Ableism:Call To Action Series.
